    Narendra Modi promotes tree planting initiative at G7 Summit

    At the recent G7 Outreach Summit in Apulia, Italy, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the critical needs and perspectives of the Global South, particularly Africa. During his speech, Modi proudly referenced India’s role in the African Union becoming a permanent member of the G20 during India’s presidency. He highlighted this as a pivotal step in addressing the concerns and aspirations of emerging economies on a global platform.

    In his detailed exposition on India’s strategies for sustainable development, Modi outlined the country’s ambitious energy roadmap. He discussed India’s commitment to achieving NET ZERO by 2070, focusing on the principles of availability, accessibility, affordability, and acceptability. Modi further invited the global community to participate in the tree plantation drive he initiated on World Environment Day – dubbed “Plant4Mother” – intending to galvanize a widespread movement with deep personal engagement and a universal commitment to environmental stewardship.

    Further advancing India’s technological and ecological initiatives, Modi spoke about India’s AI Mission, which is built around the theme “AI for All.” He stressed the importance of technology in enhancing the well-being of humanity and shared insights into India’s approach to fostering global cooperation as a founding member of the Global Partnership for AI. He conveyed a vision where technology serves humanity comprehensively, reinforcing India’s achievements in using digital solutions to improve public services.

    Celebrating the G7 Group’s 50th anniversary, Modi expressed his contentment in participating post his re-election, which he described as the largest democratic exercise in history. He reiterated his belief in a human-centric approach to technology – a cornerstone of India’s tech policies.

    The Italian Prime Minister, in her opening remarks at the summit, expressed a firm stance against divisive narratives pitting the West against other global regions. She emphasized the necessity of respectful and equitable cooperation to address pressing global issues such as artificial intelligence, energy challenges, and regional concerns in Africa and the Mediterranean. The leaders’ dialogue underscored a collective commitment to fostering global partnerships that transcend geopolitical divisions and work towards shared progress and security.

    The G7 Outreach Summit in Apulia, Italy, was graced by a distinguished assembly of global leaders alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Among the prominent attendees were U.S. President Joe Biden, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and French President Emmanuel Macron, who joined their counterparts from the other G7 member nations. Additionally, invited leaders included UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
